Today I went to the nail salon to remove these acrylics because I start my new job at the bougiest chicken shop a.k.a Nandos ! šŸ” I normally do the most btec job ripping my nails off all to save a simple Ā£10 but I couldn't take the risk. Last time I ripped my nails off they were so fragile and weak, trust me - it is not the one.

I am happy to be in a new job which is closer to home and able to stack ps but it also made me feel I was at square 1. I am grateful to have attended university, graduated, moved to London, but now it feels like I am back at the bottom of the ladder. But from the bottom where is the only direction you can go? UP. Corny yes I know but that is my mindset. It shouldn't matter what other people are doing but as long as you are secure in yourself and stay in your lane then nobody should mislead you to think other wise.

So how does this link to my cuticles? The nail salon had a fat logo on the wall reading;

'Your nails say everything about you'

It had me thinking how this is a false statement. Think about it. How can someone be judged by their nails? In their own way shape and form, nails does not convey if an individual is a hard worker and it shouldn't be represented with something so simple like their cuticles. I was reading an article in Refinery29 that mentions 'Nail Privilege'. If social media is anything to go by, the idea of ā€œnail privilegeā€ is a hot topic. But is it actually an extension of pretty privilege? Pretty privilege suggests those who are conventionally attractive — often based on outdated, Eurocentric beauty ideals like white skin and straight hair — have better social and economic advantages. So, can something as seemingly simple as a manicure really make you successful?

The notion of nail privilege is contentious. While getting a manicure can boost confidence like wearing makeup, solely attributing success to it undermines our capabilities. Ultimately, our worth isn't dictated by the state of our nails, manicured or not.
